Being offered is a truly amazing WW2 grouping for a 464th Bomb Group B-24 bomber navigator who was MIA and later declared KIA when his B-24 bomber was shot down / crashed in the Mediterranean Sea in 1944!
The grouping includes:
Original wartime US Purple Heart Medal in presentation box / case, with ribbon and bar. The medal is unmarked but in beautiful condition, with the presentation case only having a couple scuff marks to the exterior.
A US War Department official letter with envelope to the family of the deceased veteran dated in 1948, responding to the families request for additional information on their son - really poignant and sad! The letter has the ink signature of Major General EDWARD F. WITSELL.
Four large wartime portrait photos of the name veteran; two of which are in uniform (these measuring to be approximately 8” x 10” and 5” x 4” inches in size). The remaining two of this veteran in civilian dress, are colorized.
Two wartime photos showing the veteran posed with his crew by their B-24 bomber (in both photos he is noted from reverse notations as being “2nd from the left - standing”). Both photos measure to be approximately 7” x 5” inches in size.
Seven photocopied pages of the MACR (Missing Air Crew Report) for the loss of this veterans B-24 bomber; with many, many great details.
Really a wonderful and rare grouping; again priced to sell!!!
Outside the US buyers be aware that there might be a supplemental shipping bill to send this item - with exact pricing known on purchase (you will not be overcharged - but I will only know once I know the destination country)
