Bargain Lot: Award Documents, War Merit Cross, ID Disc, Photos & Paperwork for Wehrmacht Soldier who Became a POW in 1945!!!
Being offered for purchase is a magnificent medal / document / photo grouping to a Wehrmacht soldier who served in Bau-Pionier-Bataillon 254 on the Eastern Front. At the end of the war, he was evacuated from the Kurland Pocket and last fought in Stettin, Poland. He escaped to surrender to the Americans and survived the war. The grouping consists of:
Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern, unmarked award in very good condition, including a 17 cm long ribbon.
Award document for the award above, April 1944, hand signed by Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves winner Generalleutnant Wilhelm Hasse as commander of the II. Armeekorps.
Schaper's aluminium Erkennungsmarke ID disc, hand engraved while with his reserve unit, Bau-Ersatz-Bataillon 11, which is indeed the correct reserve unit for Bau.Pi.Btl.254.
Aluminium unit cyphers "254" shoulder board uniform piece.
Large portrait photo taken on the Eastern Front in 1943, and another portrait while on leave with his wife and daughter.
Seven documents; these include a confirmation his Wehrpass was lost due to enemy action, his release from the Wehrmacht on May 1st 1945, which enabled him to escape to the West and his American POW discharge document.
