Paper & Photo Death Grouping: Luftwaffe Feldwebel w/ Kampfgeschwader 2 Dornier Do.217 Bomber Airman KIA During Night Raid Over England in 1943!!!
Offered is an excellent death grouping to a Luftwaffe airman who was assigned to I. Gruppe / Kampfgeschwader 2, who was listed as MIA after his Dornier Do.217 bomber was shot down during a raid over England on August 17, 1943. This airmans status was later upgraded to KIA when his body was recovered being found by TEXEL Island off the Dutch Coast on August 30, 1943. The grouping includes the following:
A two page typed letter from the Luftwaffe Major and Staffelkapitan of I./KG.2 to the wife of the KIA airman expressing the units condolensces for the loss of her husband along with details of his death. The letter is complete with wonderful details and is complete with a ink signature and a unit stamping at the end of the letter.
A beautiful glass framed picture of the airman posed wearing a lightweight flying jacket and wearing the rank of unteroffizier at the time. The framed photo measures to be approximately 9.75" x 7.25" inches in size.
This is really a magnificent and poignant grouping to one Luftwaffe airman who lost his life flying on the Western Front.
